Next Gen Circular: the interior product of the future
Sustainability is a major theme, and every year sees the launch of many excellent initiatives and the design of new products. To provide the next generation with a major platform within the interior design sector, Designstudio Jantien Broere, Interieur Carrière and InCoDa are organising the ‘Next Gen Circular’ design competition. This design competition for the interior product of the future is aimed at professionals and creators within the interior design sector!
Whether you’re an interior designer, student, furniture maker, architect or teacher, you’re invited to showcase your vision of circular design.
Through your design, you’ll bring to light what often remains hidden:
- how a product is created
- which materials are used
- what choices are made in that process
- you’ll demonstrate how long a product, piece of furniture or interior can last
- and how it can be maintained, refurbished or repurposed in the future.
It is precisely in this complexity that the power of circular design lies. Your entry will contribute to setting a new standard within the world of interior design. Will you take part? Register by Sunday 2 August at the latest.

InCoDa provides a platform for designers, students, architects, interior designers and makers who are working to shape the world of tomorrow. For those who develop furniture and materials with the lowest possible CO₂ emissions, which are built to last and designed with reuse and circularity in mind.
Many beautiful, well-thought-out and practical designs are already emerging, often from passionate, smaller entrepreneurs or students with fresh new ideas. Designs that deserve to be seen by a wider audience.
This design competition has made that visibility possible. We believe in innovation and forward-thinking. In designs that are contemporary, creative and meaningful, and which may not yet be widely available, but which will undoubtedly become so.

The design competition is organised by Interieur Carrière, Designstudio Jantien Broere and InCoDa.
By taking part, you’ll be in with a chance of winning a free exhibition space at the InCoDa trade event (21–23 September 2026).
We are accepting entries until Sunday 2 August.
After that, the jury will select the best designs, and who knows – you might get to present your product in September to a large audience of over 5,000 interior design professionals. From home furnishing retailers, stylists and interior architects to manufacturers, project designers and interior fit-out specialists!
The challenge:
Design an interior product or spatial element in which circularity is central. The design should demonstrate how raw materials, materials and products can function within a closed-loop system, with minimal impact on the environment.
The entry should not only be an aesthetically pleasing design, but above all a well-considered solution in which the use of materials, their origin, lifespan and reusability have demonstrably been taken into account.

1. Circularity as a guiding principle
- The design is based on reused, renewable or bio-based materials.
- Materials can be dismantled and are suitable for reuse or recycling.
- Consideration is given to the entire life cycle (from origin to end of life).
2. Transparency regarding material use
- The entrant explains which materials have been used.
- The origin of the materials is made clear.
- Any processing or additions are justified.
3. Sustainability and impact
- The design minimises waste and wastage.
- Production and transport are as local and efficient as possible.
- EEnergy consumption and CO₂ impact are taken into account (supported by evidence where possible).
4. Functionality and applicability
- The design is practical for use within an interior context.
- The product or element has a clear function.
- The design is realistically feasible (not purely conceptual work).
5. Aesthetic quality
- Form, material and finish are in balance.
- The design is expressive and fits within a contemporary interior context.
What you need to submit
- A visual presentation of the design (drawing, rendering or prototype).
- A brief explanation (max. 200 words) justifying your choices.
- A list of materials, including their origin and processing methods.
Assessment criteria
Entries will be assessed on:
- Degree of circularity
- Innovation and originality
- Sustainable impact
- Technical and practical feasibility
- Aesthetic quality
Please submit your design by 2 August at the latest.
In een wereld waarin duurzaamheid niet langer genoeg is, dagen we jou uit om een stap verder te denken. Niet alleen minder schade doen, maar actief bijdragen aan herstel. Niet alleen circulair, maar regeneratief, een ontwerp dat zorgt voor herstel, niet voor afbraak.

Who can participate?
Both established designers and recent graduates or students are welcome to participate and showcase their concepts to the interior design industry.

Awards ceremony – Tuesday 23 September, 2.30 pm
On Friday 7 August, the jury will announce the shortlist, and you will find out whether you can present your product or concept to the interior design industry at the InCoDa & hout Interieur Beurs from Monday 21 September to Wednesday 23 September 2026.
On the final day of InCoDa, the jury will review all entries and, based on various criteria, independently decide who the overall winner of the design competition is.
